Move Better, Feel Better & Live Better

Return to your natural rhythm

Your body is designed to heal.

What is the Therapeutic Yoga Method?

Therapeutic Yoga is a balanced practice, accessible to almost everyone, focused on healing and transformation.

The Therapeutic Yoga Method nurtures both body and mind, promoting physical vitality, mental clarity, and emotional well-being.

The method combines passive and active movements to harmonize and balance the body in a systematic and efficient way.

Each sequence is designed to restore the body’s natural functionality, regulate the nervous system, and deepen the mind-body connection.

Therapeutic Yoga is not about accomplishing poses, but returning to natural and functional levels of flexibility, strength, balance and mobility.

The goal of the Therapeutic Yoga Method is to help people move better, feel better, and live better.

Therapeutic Yoga goes beyond stretching and strengthening; it retrains the nervous system to recognize and shift patterns.

Mindful, deliberate movement combined with the use of props cultivates presence and safety, supporting the brain's ability to adapt and rewire.

Rather than pushing through discomfort, students are guided to build somatic awareness and restore a felt sense of connection to the body.

Re-Patterning the Nervous System for Presence

Here’s What People Are Saying About The Therapeutic Yoga Method

Help Others Heal Through the Transformative Power of Therapeutic Yoga

Are you ready to go deeper into your practice and your purpose? Ready to offer something truly unique, effective, and inclusive?

As a Therapeutic Yoga Method teacher, you have the opportunity to hold space for healing and transformation in a way that’s grounded, intentional, and deeply supportive.

Teaching Therapeutic Yoga goes beyond just leading a class. It’s about guiding people through nervous-system-informed movement that helps them feel safer, more connected, and more at ease in their bodies.

Help the People That Other Yoga Studios Miss

Therapeutic Yoga appeals to a large population of individuals who are overlooked or underserved by traditional yoga and fitness classes.

These “hidden yogis” are searching for a form of movement that helps them reduce stress, build strength, and improve mobility and balance without feeling overwhelmed or out of place.

Teaching Therapeutic Yoga allows you to reach people who could truly benefit from yoga but aren’t finding what they need in traditional classes.

Key Features of the Therapeutic Yoga Method

  • We use the name Therapeutic Yoga to highlight the fact that the main focus or intention of the practice is therapeutic in nature. It’s purpose is to bring holistic healing to the body and mind.

You can make the argument that any form of exercise or yoga is therapeutic, but many people find traditional yoga classes too fast or demanding to actually be therapeutic.

Other forms of yoga also have different goals. Some are focused on sweating and getting an intense workout. Others are designed only to increase flexibility. And others have the goal of achieving advanced postures.

The focus of the Therapeutic Yoga Method is on healing and balance, not just in the body, but also in the mind and nervous system. When we heal at the level of the nervous system, we create lasting change that impacts not just the body, but how we think, feel, and relate to the world around us.

  • The Therapeutic Yoga Method does not aim to achieve postures that extend beyond typical ranges of movement or flexibility.

Instead, it focuses on restoring and maintaining natural levels of mobility that support healthy, functional movement. Many popular styles of yoga emphasize poses that push the body beyond what is sustainable or beneficial for most people.

In the Therapeutic Yoga Method, the emphasis is on preserving the body’s natural functionality to support ease, stability, and freedom of movement in everyday life.

  • Our chair-based lifestyle creates a very predictable movement pattern: spine is slouched, hips and knees at 90 degrees, feet are flat on the floor, and there is very little dynamic change throughout the day.

Therapeutic Yoga provides a safe, progressive way to counteract the negative effects of a modern lifestyle, helping to restore the body’s natural functionality and alleviate discomfort caused by imbalances from sedentary habits.

Instead of forcing the body into extreme positions, it offers gradual exposure to deeper ranges of motion supported by props and mindful movement. This retrains the nervous system to feel safe in those positions, helps remodel the connective tissues, and gently increases mobility without strain.

Some of the Key Elements Therapeutic Yoga Includes:

    • Supported floor-based positions that access deeper angles and dimensions of the body without bearing weight

    • Passive and active mobilizations that encourage circulation and lymphatic flow

    • Strengthening movements that engage the muscles in sustainable ways

    • Somatic awareness practices that help students tune into subtle sensations and learn to move in a way that supports long-term joint health

    • Intelligent sequencing and a nervous-system-aware approach helps restore the functional movement patterns that have been lost through modern, sedentary lifestyle habits.

  • In the Therapeutic Yoga Method, we strive to create a well-rounded practice that supports strength, balance, flexibility, and mobility.

Each movement is intentionally chosen to target these key areas in a way that’s functional and accessible.

With the support of props, students are able to explore a fuller range of motion, activate underused muscles, and safely build strength and stability without strain.

The use of mindful, controlled movement helps retrain patterns in the nervous system while encouraging a deeper connection to the body.

This balanced approach allows the practice to meet students where they are, while gently guiding them toward greater resilience and ease in everyday life.

  • In Therapeutic Yoga, accessibility is a core value. The intention is to include as many people as possible by designing sequences that minimize exclusion. Over time, each sequence has been carefully tested and refined, with movements either modified or removed if they are likely to be too painful, demanding, or discouraging for certain bodies.

What sets Therapeutic Yoga apart is that it remains relevant for individuals of all ages, abilities and levels of fitness, including those who are younger, athletic, or without major limitations.

Many physically fit students are drawn to the method as a sustainable, mindful alternative to more intense or fast-paced yoga styles. The slower, more deliberate approach supports nervous system regulation while still offering a sense of full-body benefit.

Classes often include a wide range of ages and abilities—from people in their 20s to those in their 80s—and by the end of practice, students consistently report feeling accomplished and well-supported.

For those with greater capacity, more challenging variations are offered, ensuring they remain engaged, while others are encouraged to work at a pace and level that honors their individual needs.

Therapeutic Yoga also provides vital support for those recovering from injury, surgery, or living with chronic limitations, offering a practice that promotes healing, supports recovery, and helps rebuild trust in the body.

  • In the Therapeutic Yoga Method, classes are offered at different levels to provide an accessible entry point for those who are completely new to yoga or hesitant to join a class out of fear they won’t be able to keep up.

When a student has the positive experience of successfully completing a class, it creates an internal shift—a felt sense of “I can do this.”

That confidence becomes the foundation for growth. Over time, students can gradually increase the challenge, eventually completing classes that may have felt too overwhelming at the start.

The Therapeutic Yoga Method can also serve as a supportive introduction to yoga for those who may later choose to explore other styles and practices.

  • True to the spirit of yoga, all sequences in the Therapeutic Yoga Method include intentional moments of silence and stillness, giving students the opportunity to quiet the mind and regulate the nervous system.

Throughout the practice, students are consistently guided to direct their attention inward toward the sensations of the body, deepening the mind-body connection and cultivating greater awareness of their internal experience.

Discover New Dimensions of Movement with Prop Enhanced Sequences

One of the unique features of the Therapeutic Yoga Method is the use of specific props to help both adapt and enhance poses and movements. Utilizing props creates safety, stability and diversity in the practice.

All movements and poses in TYM are adaptable to suit almost everyone, with the only requirement being the ability to get up and down from the floor unassisted.

Sequences can be made more or less challenging by adjusting the level of active muscle engagement and varying the time spent in specific poses. This flexibility allows the practice to be tailored to individual needs and abilities.
